First big album of the year and with music by an inform music director Devi Sree Prasad who is on a roll. Let’s see what the album offers and what kind of start it gives to the Telugu film industry musically.
Most of the songs are template DSP songs but the music director in this album makes them ‘sound’ fresh with his lively and energetic arrangements. “Yahoo Yahooâ€, “Darlingey†falls into this category. Trumpets, dholaks, guitar and drums everything is there in “Yahoo Yahoo†along with trademark “all the boys and girls†rap by DSP. But the all around packaging of the song is quite appealing and foot tapping with lyrics that sticks in one’s mind with few catchy phrases. Darlingey is similarly packaged number that is quite foot tapping.
Idhedo Bagunde is best song in the album and an instant chart-buster. Everything works in the song. DSP tries for some variety within his limit in Pandagala and Barbie Girl. The variety works here as both add further freshness to the album. The interludes in the Pandagala songs with Kailash Kher vocals make it work big time and bring soul to it. Barbie girl with Spanish influences is a fine number as well. The song gets better as it progresses and is better with each new listening. The female portions with “ummah†are really catchy.
Mirchi and Nee Choopula are bit songs that would work well with the context but doesn’t work outside.
DSP begins 2013 with a bang, it’s a blockbuster beginning. The album has fantastic repeatability and likeability. This is the second best album in the combination of Prabhas and Devi Sree Prasad on par with Pournami. Varsham, of course remains the best in their combination.
