Music director Anup Rubens has been on a roll for the past few years and especially this year he has upped the ante further with couple of sensational albums in the form of Heart Attack and Manam. Will Oka Laila Kosam maintain the high standards, let us see.
‘Ee Chinni Life’ maintains a smooth flow right through. It has that trademark sounding of an Anup Rubens and at the same time feels fresh to listen to. It is a fun listen for few times but one that is likely going to wore out when played in loop. ‘Oh Cheli o Nuvve Na Cheli’ is another typical Anup number but once again neatly packaged that makes us hit the repeat button. But it has a similar problem like the previous number, feels boring after multiple listens. We liked the former number just a little better though as Adnan Sami’s voice in the latter sounds very jaded.
‘O Meri Jaane Jana’ is the best number in the album undoubtedly. It has the same effect as previous numbers initially and doesn’t feel tiring after multiple listens as well. It stays the same way and likeable even after being played many times. For wannabe reviewers out there, these first three numbers shows one exactly the difference between a good number and merely a good ‘sounding’ number.
The remix of ‘Oka Laila Kosam’ is superb. There was an initial apprehension after hearing the sample song but the final remix is very neatly done, one that clearly maintains the melody of the original classic. The beats are just add on and don’t destroy the feel and nor does the singing.
‘Teluse Nuvvu Ravani’ gets better with each listen and eventually sticks. The album which started positively ends on a good note with this number. Of course that is when one skips the final remix number like we did.
Anup Rubens has once again delivered a likeable album, although not as sensational as the two we mentioned at the beginning. He has shown remarkable improvement in the packaging of his sound as a whole giving it a ‘big’ film quality, something which was lacking in some of his earlier albums. For now Anup Rubens has completed a hat-trick with Heart Attack, Manam and Oka Laila Kosam. How long will the music director maintain this likable form has to be seen?
Our picks: O Meri Jaane Jana, Oka Laila Kosam remix, Ee Chinni Life
