Anaganaga O Dheerudu – Is For Kids Only
Anaganaga O Dheerudu comes with a mammoth expectation and in a genre that’s the pedigree of Telugu cinema. Telugu people have always appreciated fantasy epics. Has Anaganaga O Dheerudu lived up to the expectations? Well it has and also hasn’t.
Anaganaga O Dheerudu reaches the expectations of the people technically and visually and even goes beyond too but falters when it comes to the story telling department. The soul of the film the story is almost non existent. The film is a Disney fairytale told in live action rather than animation with all clichés included like a prince kissing princess to break the spell. While the animation has worked well and produced classics over the years the live action adaptations lacks the same magic.
The film never gains momentum and it moves at a slow pace, the corny dialogues only make the things worse. Laxmi Prasanna stands out among the performers. She creates a magnetic character Irendri but the rest of the characters fail to have that graph. Shruthi Hasan looks beautiful and that’s about it. Siddhath tries and tries hard to be a warrior but fails. He is better in the portions as romantic nomad where he is at his natural self. Among the others Baby Harshita and Ravi Babu have some role. Ravi Babu does well in his part and also evokes some laughter. Ali and Brahmanandam are wasted.
Now coming to the major attraction which also becomes the films major distraction, the special effects. For a Telugu film they are beyond imagination. But such strong visuals alone can not sustain a film it requires a great screen play backed by emotions. The emotional content needs to be strong enough to override the special effects. Here the reverse happens. The emotions lack depth and appear shallow. This is where the film falters. This is the failure of the director. Other than this he has great eye for visuals which is visible in each and every frame of the film.
Production values are spectacular. Cinematography, music and background score, costumes and sets, each and every department has given their best. All these combined makes Anaganaga O Dheerudu a one time watch.
