Sankranthi is the biggest season for the movies in Tollywood is a well known fact. We have seen many a blockbusters emerge and numerous boxoffice duels at the ticket windows during sankranthi. This year is no different with four films in competition with each other.
1. Paramaveera Chakra
Cast: Nandamuri Balakrishna,Sheela,Ameesha Patel,Neha Dhupia etc.
Director: Dasari narayana Rao.
Producer: C Kalyan.
Balakrishna plays dual role in what promises to be patriotic movie. Director Dasari Narayana Rao makes a movie with an A grade star after decades. Also this is his 150th movie as director so he would want to make it a success and is taking extra precautions towards it. Balakrishna is fresh from the success of Simha. This being his immediate film after Simha, fans have humongous expectations from him but are wary of the director too. All in all Paramaveera Chakra is the biggest movie of the sankranthi.
Last sankranthi release of Balakrishna’s “Lakshmi Narasimha” (2004) is super hit and “Okkamagadu” (2008) was disaster at boxoffice.
Cons: Music by Manisharma and Dasari Narayana Rao.
Cast: Ravi Teja,Richa Gnanopadhaya,Deeksha Seth etc.
Director: Harish Shankar.
Producer: Ramesh P.
Ravi Teja is back again after Don Seenu. He reunites with his Shock director Harish Shankar. This one promises to another racy entertainer typical of Ravi Teja. The dialogues by director Harish Shankar and hero’s characterization are said to be the highlights of the movie. Can director come of out his “Shock” mould and deliver a clean fun entertainer is what the fans are concerned about.
Last sankranthi release of Ravi Teja’s “Krishna” (2008) was blockbuster at boxoffice and Shambo Siva Shambo (2010) made decent profits.
Pros: Ravi Teja’s brand minimum guarantee entertainment, four songs by S.S Thaman.
Cons: Harish Shankar’s Shock.
3. Anaganaga O Dheerudu
Cast: Siddharth,Shruthi Hasan,Manchu Lakshmi Prasanna etc.
Music: M.M.Keeravani,Salim-Sulaiman,Mickey J Mayor,Koti/
Director: K.Prakash Rao.
Producer: K Raghavendra Rao and Walt Disney.
A big epic fantasy with great special effects coupled with great visuals and fresh music forms the USP of the film rather than its star cast and crew. Its promoted as a visual feast to the audience. The biggest movie budget wise this sankranthi and also the dark horse of the season. Can turn out to be the Arundhati of this year with good script.
Last sankranthi release of Siddharth’s “Nuvvostanante Nenoddantana” (2005) was boxoffice blockbuster while his “Chukkallo Chandrudu” (2006) was boxoffice disaster.
Pros: Genre, lavish presentation and music.
Cons: star cast.
4. Golconda High School
Cast: Sumanth,Swathi,Subbaraju etc
Music: Kalyani Malik.
Director: Mohan Krishna Indraganti.
Producer: Ram Mohan.
A sport based film made after a long time in Telugu. This is an adaptation of the book “The Men Within” written by Harimohan Paruvu. Directed by Mohan Krishna Indraganti, who last gave us delightful sweet little film “Astha-Chemma”. The film comes with virtually no expectations thanks to its theme and lack of big stars.
Last sankranthi release of Sumanth’s “Paurudu” (2008) was below average at boxoffice.
Pros: Mohan Krishna Indraganti, Swathi.
Cons: Sumanth, Genre.
