Compared to North, the movies with a Political theme based used to be less in Southern Movie Industry. Looking at the last decade, it is quite evident that the leading makers have developed love on Political subjects more than commercial ones.
Needless to say, the legendary director Mani Ratnam will come first who touched this genre many times like the flicks Iruvar, Villain, Nayagan etc. In the recent times, almost all the southern regional cinema is witnessing these Politics centred flicks and they are getting a terrific response from the audiences. Murugadoss is now coming with Sarkar which is a direct satire on Contemporary Politics. The upcoming movie of Superstar Rajini Kanth-Subba Raj is speculated to have Political content. Needless to say, Mersal and Shankar’s Oke Okkadu also bank on this genre.
Even in Kannada and Malayalam, the Political based thrillers are getting the finest response from the movie lovers. Coming to Telugu, the list goes on with the flicks like Mahesh’s Bharat Ane Nenu, Rana’s Leader and Nene Raju Nene Mantri, an upcoming flick of Vijay Devarakonda’s NOTA are some finest examples.
The directors down the South are betting high on the appetite of the audience towards the political genre. We can witness some more good political films in the future.
